Richard Sowers: author, speaker, expert
Learn why Shatterproof is the ultimate book for anyone who cares
About the most invincible record-setting performances in sports
Virtually every day sports fans are subjected to claims, whether in their daily newspaper or while surfing the internet, listening to the radio, watching television or in casual conversation, that records "are made to be broken" or that a certain record "will last forever."
Never, however, has the subject been explored with more definitive in-depth research and analysis, or in such an authoritative and engaging manner, than in Shatterproof: The 100 Most Unbreakable Records in Sports and Why, written by Richard Sowers.
Shatterproof chronicles the 100 most unbreakable records in sports, in order, lists dozens of additional honorable-mention choices and explains why the most impressive or famous records are not necessarily the most unbreakable, often with surprising, yet convincing, results.
Although Sowers, the author of three previous books that all received lofty critical acclaim, The Complete Statistical History of Stock-Car Racing, Stock-Car Racing Lives and The Abstract Primer of Thoroughbred Racing, has been most closely associated with college basketball and football, baseball and golf, in addition to auto racing and horse racing, he also has covered pro football and basketball, tennis, boxing and track & field extensively.
About the Author/Expert: Sowers is an experienced, articulate, provocative media guest and speaker who has been the subject of more than 1,000 radio, 250 television and countless print media interviews, including the likes of ESPN and The New York Times, and has delivered hundreds of speeches.
Sowers began his sportswriting career in 1973 with The Martinsville (Va.) Bulletin and subsquently worked for The Roanoke (Va.) Times before he spent five years as sports editor of The Gastonia Gazette, North Carolina's largest afternoon newspaper.
